Remotely accessing a PC can be easy using Chrome Remote Desktop extension
A browser nowadays is more than a tool for accessing the web. With the right extensions, you can put it to many other uses.
Remotely accessing a PC can be easy. Especially if you are trying to help a less than tech savvy person. You will have access to the other person’s computer just like you were right there – and you can see and control the computer from right within the browser.
This chrome extension works on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X, so you can, for example, access your Linux desktop from a Windows box.
If you already have the browser installed on both machines, then using Chrome Remote Desktop is very easy
You can download the Chrome Remote Desktop extension from the Google Chrome Web Store. The extension should automatically install. If you leave the installation page open, you can launch the app right from that page.
To help with security, both you and the other person will need to grant access to the extension via your Google account. This can be either a standard Google account or a Google Apps account.
There are two part :
First part
Allowing access to your computer
First you will need to click the Share Button
Once you click the button, a unique one-time use access code will be generated.
Get this code to the person you who will be accessing your computer. You can cancel the session at any time by clicking the button in the box that is displayed on the screen.
Second part
Access the computer.
The process to access the computer is much the same.
You will download and install the extension.
When the person sends you the access code, you will input that code into the text box.
Press connect, the extension will verify the code and you should see the other person’s screen.

Check what's happening at your system startup
One of the biggest slowdowns on a Windows computer is the barrage of applications that start up when you boot Windows.
Check what's happening at your system startup. I bet that you will find one or more suspicious programs.
When you install more and more software you may start to notice that it takes longer and longer for your computer to startup. This is probably because many applications these days hook into your Windows Startup process and automatically load up each time you start your computer.
To Disable Start-up Programs / Applications In Windows:
1. Click the windows+r command to open Run then in the box Type msconfig and Press Enter .
2. From the System Configuration, Click Startup tab and then Uncheck the program boxes that you would like to prevent from starting when Windows starts. Click OK to save changes when you are done.
3. Now that you’ve saved changes Restart Windows and the selected programs should no longer automatically start up.
That’s it!

How to Reset (clear) your BIOS
To clear the CMOS is to short the "CLEAR CMOS" jumper on your motherboard, assuming you have one as most of the motherboards do.
Clearing CMOS using the jumper (clear jumper)
Clearing CMOS using the jumper (clear jumper)
- Turn off your computer completely.
- Open your computer and look around your motherboard for a jumper labeled ClR_ CMOS or CLRTC . These jumpers are usually located near the BIOS chip itself or near the CMOS battery .
- Remove the jumper from pin 1 and 2 and place it on pin 2 and 3, wait for two or three minutes, then return the jumper to its original position. All parameters of Bios will be deleted.
- At times in some motherboard by removing the battery also clears the CMOS.
- It is possible that a message “Checksum Error” appears at the start of your system. You can simply try to restart. If the message persists, load the default settings of your Bios (Press Del, F1 or F2 to enter Bios setup and press “Load Optimized Defaults”).

Fixing the Master Boot Record in Windows 7
1. Turn your computer on, booting from either your Windows 7 Installation DVD or Windows 7 System Recovery Disc. Note: You may need to change the boot order inside your BIOS to have the your DVD drive boot first.
2. After the installation or recovery disc loads, if prompted, select your language settings and then continue. If you are using the installation DVD, when prompted by the following screen select Repair your computer.
3. The computer will take a moment now to scan itself for any Windows installations. Select the appropriate windows If by chance a problem is detected in one of your Windows installations at this initial stage, the system may also ask you if it can try to repair the problem automatically. It is up to you if you wish to let the system try to repair itself, but otherwise just select No.
5. Now at the command prompt, enter the following command and then press enter:
bootrec.exe /FixMbr
If successful, you should be greeted with the message The operation completed successfully. That's it! Your Master Boot Record has been repaired.
While the above command does fix the MBR, and sometimes that is enough, there still might be an error with the system partition,s boot sector and Boot Configuration Data (BCD). This might occur if you have tried to install another operating system alongside Windows 7, such as Windows XP. To write a new boot sector, try the following command:
bootrec.exe /FixBoot
If you are still faced with your Windows 7 installation not being detected during start up, or if you wish to include more than one operating system choice to your system's boot list, you can try the following command to rebuild your BCD:
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
The above command will scan all your disks for other operating systems compatible with Windows 7 and allow you to add them to your system's boot list. If this fails, you may need to backup the old BCD folder and create a new one in its place with the following commands:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
2. After the installation or recovery disc loads, if prompted, select your language settings and then continue. If you are using the installation DVD, when prompted by the following screen select Repair your computer.
4. Once you have reached the System Recovery Options screen, as shown below, you will be faced with a list of choices that can aid you in repairing a damaged Windows 7 operating system. If you wish to try the Startup Repair option first, it is often successful in automatically fixing many different start up issues, but in this article we will be using the Command Prompt option to resolve our problems manually. So, clickCommand Prompt to continue.
5. Now at the command prompt, enter the following command and then press enter:

Synchronize Folders Between Your Computers and Drives with SyncToy 2.1
There are files from all kinds of sources that we want to store and manage. Files are created by our digital cameras, e-mail, cell phones, portable media players, camcorders, PDAs, and laptops. To manage this hundreds or thousands of files is still largely a manual operation. In some cases it is necessary to regularly get copies of files from another location to add to primary location; in other cases there is a need to keep two storage locations exactly in sync (same).
This is a free tool from Microsoft that was once part of the XP Power Toys but has continued to grow and improve.
If you are using Windows then SyncToy from Microsoft is freely available.
You might have a external drive that you use to carry files and documents from the workplace to your home office and vice versa. SyncToy will guide you through creating a pair of linked folders. Labeled as Left and Right, it will then ask you to choose from one of five synchronization methods.
SyncToy also offers up a preview, preventing accidental loss of data.
- Echo works like a standard one-way sync, copying all files from Left to Right.
- Synchronize is bidirectional;
- Contribute works like Echo but it won't delete files removed from the Left folder;
- Subscribe only updates files in common that have been updated; and
- Combine merges Synchronize and Contribute so that files are updated in both directions, but none are deleted.

Symptoms of Processor Failure
System Bootup Issues
- If you boot up your machine and nothing happens – not even any beeps that indicate a POST test is running -- processor failure is one of two possible causes
- This is a failure mode that's more definitively a case of the processor failing. Motherboards have temperature sensors on the processor, and when the processor exceeds a given temperature range, the motherboard will shut down to prevent damage to the processor. This is also the simplest diagnostic to confront without having to do systematic component replacement -- remove the heat sink from the processor, clean off the old layer of thermal compound with a razor blade, apply a new layer, re-seat the heat sink and try again.
- Another symptom set of a processor failure symptoms happens after you've reached the operating system: The mouse freezes on the screen and the system becomes completely unresponsive, usually with a series of short beeps when you attempt to enter anything with the keyboard. This can be a symptom of the central processor failing -- or it could be symptomatic of the graphics card processor failing.
- Windows has significantly improved in its reliability with the switch to the Windows NT code base beginning with the Windows XP operating system, and it's only gotten more reliable since. While "System Abort" blue screens were common with Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME from driver conflicts, since the switch to Windows XP, and especially Windows Vista and Windows 7, a "System Abort" blue screen is most likely hardware-related. Consistently getting a Windows blue screen isn't a sure-fire indicator of a processor failure, but it's something to consider.
Causes of Processor Failure
- There are two primary causes of processor failure: processor overheating and voltage surges. Overheating is the root cause of more than 95 percent of all processor failures. Voltage surges that destroy a processor are comparatively rare, but sometimes happen when a power supply unit gets old enough to send voltage surges. Most BIOS settings will let you take the temperature of your processor at system boot up. There are a number of utilities that will relay this information into Windows as well; in general, if your processor is running in excess of 60 C (140 F), it's in danger of damaging itself.
Systematically Eliminating Possibilities
- When trying to isolate which component is causing your computer system to lock up or throw abort messages, the most important part of the process is to be systematic -- if you have two computers with identical hardware and one of them consistently locks up or throws blue screens, start by swapping video cards, then by swapping RAM, then by swapping processors between them. The key here is to replicate the problem (and the solution) by swapping components between the systems and testing them one at a time, until you know for certain which component is causing the failure.

Things to be done before sending your Computer/Laptop For Repairs
Your computer has died and it’s still under warranty and you want to send it your vendor. If possible, there are some things you should consider doing before packing the computer/laptop into a box and shipping it off to Dell, HP, Acer or Sony.
There are two major concerns here. The first is privacy. The second is the concern for your data. There is a very real possibility the hard drive that returns to you will not be the same hard drive that came with it. Or if it is, the drive might have been reformatted to factory defaults and your data might
be gone forever.
Computer Shipping Security Checklist
Depending on the nature of your computer’s problem, you should consider doing the following before sending your computer away to total strangers.

Computer Shipping Security Checklist
Depending on the nature of your computer’s problem, you should consider doing the following before sending your computer away to total strangers.
- Check computer drives for removable media – Open the DVD drive to check for disks and make sure there is no disk in your floppy drive, as well.
- Backup and remove sensitive documents – Backup your files to another computer or an external hard drive. You have to assume that data might not be there when your computer is shipped back to you.
- Remove favorites from browser – Copy or export your favorites (bookmarks) from your browser and then delete them from your computer. This is less for privacy than for security.
- Remove browser history – Although you have removed your bookmarks, sites you have recently visited might be in your browser’s history.
- Remove stored passwords from browser – If they find your bookmarks, make sure you do not have any passwords stored in memory.
- Take notes – Write down the model and serial number of your computer. This is usually on the back, near the power supply.
- Take pictures – Take pictures of the computer. This will help you identify model / serial numbers, as well as document the physical condition the computer was in before you shipped it away.
- Pack it for shipping – Unless you receive a box from the manufacturer, try and pack the computer into its original box. If you still have the box, hopefully it contains the packing Styrofoam or foam inserts to keep it safe during the shipping process. Do not pack any input devices or cables unless they specifically ask for them.
- Documentation- You should take steps to make sure all of your documentation are in order and that you have all the information you need to follow up on the repair.

Toolwiz Time Freeze
Time Freeze Your Computer In A Virtual Environment & Protect It From Malware
Toolwiz Time Freeze is an effective Instant System Restore software to keep your computer system safe and protect your computer from undesired changes. It can also protect your files and folders from changes with a secure password protection. It makes virtualization very easy to use. Basically, it clones your system, creating fully working copies that you can use normally (or abnormally) without risking your "real" system. It puts the actual system under secure protection and creates a virtual environment for system partition, on which you then run applications and surf the internet. It provides higher-level security to computer protection, and greatly improves the efficiency of virtual systems.
Toolwiz Time Freeze has a simple interface for starting and stopping its main features as well as adding files to the File Protection feature (Time Freeze warns not to include Windows system files). There's a small, optional "ToolBar" that merely displays the program's status on the desktop, but it's helpful if you switch between modes a lot. Most of the time, the program's system tray icon handles all the actions.

Removing add-ons and toolbars in Internet Explorer by reset
To resolve issues that are caused by add-ons, or toolbars in Internet Explorer, you will need to reset your Internet browser back to its original settings. This can be helpful in addressing a variety of issues including miscellaneous error messages, browser display problems, and general difficulties using the Yahoo! site.
The workflow described in this help document will disable any toolbars or any add-on to the browser. This will not harm or delete any of your Favorites. You will, however, lose any stored passwords. The reason for this action is that toolbars and other add-ons, other website cookies, or a change to your browser's security settings may interfere with other functionality.

Remove Unwanted Web Page Elements Before Printing
- Print Friendly for Chrome Lets You Easily Remove Unwanted Web Page Elements Before Printing With any luck, you don't have to print web pages very often anymore, but for those times when you do, it's useful to have a way to strip out the images, advertisements, and other fluff on the page. Even if the site you're printing from offers a handy "Print This" button for a streamlined view, Print Friendly for Chrome gives you control over what makes it into the printout and what doesn't. For example, if you just want a recipe without the commentary around it, you can click the Print Friendly button in your toolbar to get an editable version of the page where you can strip out any photos you don't need to see, comments below the recipe, or banner ads that sneak into the so-called "printer friendly" version of the page. Ideally, you won't have to remove much yourself, because Print Friendly tries to remove a lot of that unnecessary information before showing you the version it wants to print, but just in case it misses something, you control the final product. Print Friendly is free (of course) and available now in the Chrome Web Store. It's been around for a while, but it works like a charm. Click the link above with this web page open in Google Chrome:
- Print Friendly for Firefox users looking for a similar extension can try Print Edit, which gives you a similar interface where you can highlight test, remove images and ads, and pass the final product on to your printer . Print Edit8.6 allows editing of the web page content while in Print Preview mode. Editing the web page prior to printing can compact the layout and remove unwanted content such as adverts, sidebars and blank pages. Any element can be formatted, hidden or deleted.

Reasons for moving your My Documents folder
There are two serious reasons to do this with immediate effect.
3. Click Apply and then Ok. A prompt will ask whether you want to move all of the current documents to the new location or not. Choose Yes. All your documents are switched to the new location and it’s all like before except now they are safer from a system crash.
- Imagine that all your precious documents, photos and sundry other files are organized beautifully in this folder on the system partition (commonly the C Drive). Imagine a system crash. Imagine the loss of never able to recover that data. And now imagine a simple step which could have saved the day.
- The usual good word is to partition your hard disk into multiples with a minimum size kept for the system drive. With time My Documents will fatten up as more data is stashed away in it. Moving the folder to a different drive saves space and more importantly safeguards it.

Troubleshooting steps for issues when you try to use the System Restore tool in Windows XP
What is System Restore?
System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.
Sometimes, the installation of a program or a driver can cause an unexpected change to your computer or cause Windows to behave unpredictably. Usually, uninstalling the program or driver corrects the problem. If uninstalling does not fix the problem, you can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.
System Restore uses a feature called System Protection to regularly create and save restore points on your computer. These restore points contain information about registry settings and other system information that Windows uses. You can also create restore points manually.
System Restore is not intended for backing up personal files, so it cannot help you recover a personal file that has been deleted or damaged. You should regularly back up your personal files and important data using a backup program.

What is Windows Defender Offline?
Sometimes, malicious and other potentially unwanted software, including rootkits, try to install themselves on your PC. This can happen when you connect to the Internet or install some programs from a CD, DVD, or other media. Once on your PC, this software might run immediately, or it might run at unexpected times. Windows Defender Offline can help remove such hard to find malicious and potentially unwanted programs using definitions that recognize threats. Definitions are files that provide an encyclopedia of potential software threats. Because new threats appear daily, it's important to always have the most up-to-date definitions installed in Windows Defender Offline. Armed with definition files, Windows Defender Offline can detect malicious and potentially unwanted software, and then notify you of the risks.
For both the PC infected with a virus or malware, and the PC that you are creating the bootable media on, you'll need PCs with the following minimum requirements.
Operating system:
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Windows Vista, Windows Vista with SP1, Windows Vista with SP2, or higher
Windows 7, Windows 7 with SP1, or higher
Windows Developer Preview, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Windows 8 Release Preview
2) Select the appropriate bootable medium. Once you start the creation, it will download the package and latest updates from Microsoft official site. So, make sure you have direct or proxy internet connection with download access.

3) If you select CD, then insert the blank CD in next screen, if it is an USB drive, just remember this program will format the USB drive and install System Sweeper.

ISO can be ideal to mount and use in working computer or any virtual machines.
4) Successful message will appear after the completion.
5) If it is a physical computer which can’t be booted or cleaned while OS is working, then insert the CD or USB and boot from it. Mount the ISO file to CD drive and boot the virtual machine for cleaning.
Press any key to boot from CD. It loads like latest Microsoft Operating Systems. Malware and virus clean up should start nicely.

Using VirtualBox to run Ubuntu and any other operating system
Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems like Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, and OpenBSD.
VirtualBox is a cross-platform virtualization application. For example, you can run Windows and Linux on your Mac, run Windows Server 2008 on your Linux server, run Linux on your Windows PC, and so on, all alongside your existing applications. You can install and run as many virtual machines as you like -- the only practical limits are disk space and memory.
VirtualBox is deceptively simple yet also very powerful. It can run everywhere from small embedded systems or desktop class machines all the way up to datacenter deployments and even Cloud environments.
The following screenshot shows you how VirtualBox, installed on a Mac computer, is running Windows 7 in a virtual machine window:
![]() |
In order to run VirtualBox on your machine, you need:
- Reasonably powerful x86 hardware. Any recent Intel or AMD processor should do.
- Memory. Depending on what guest operating systems you want to run, you will need at least 512 MB of RAM (but probably more, and the more the better). Basically, you will need whatever your host operating system needs to run comfortably, plus the amount that the guest operating system needs. So, if you want to run Windows XP on Windows XP, you probably won't enjoy the experience much with less than 1 GB of RAM. If you want to try out Windows Vista in a guest, it will refuse to install if it is given less than 512 MB RAM, so you'll need that for the guest alone, plus the memory your operating system normally needs.
- Hard disk space. While VirtualBox itself is very lean (a typical installation will only need about 30 MB of hard disk space), the virtual machines will require fairly huge files on disk to represent their own hard disk storage. So, to install Windows XP, for example, you will need a file that will easily grow to several GB in size.
- A supported host operating system. Presently, we support Windows (XP and later), many Linux distributions, Mac OS X, Solaris and OpenSolaris.
- A supported guest operating system.

How to Test Power Supply
Power supply is
failing to be the cause of spontaneous reboots or some serious error
message.
How to do a power supply test may be an important step that must be done.
There are two ways to test the power supply, namely through manual testing using a multimeter and testing through a power supply tester. Both ways are equally effective for power supply testing, and definitive choice is yours.
Here’s more information that can help you choose which method is best from both methods mentioned above in the test power supply.
Power Supply Testing with a Multimeter

Advantages
To test the power supply is only needed a Multimeter with a screwdriver. Disconnect the power supply your computer from computer case, then read the instructions on the side of the power supply box for a list of values in each color of cable voltage, which are physically the cables’ ends on DC power supply connector.
Attach your power supply back into the computer case, turn on your computer, then you can perform measurements only on the integrated DC voltage power supply at the top where the connector mounted on the main board.
Disadvantages
Power supply testing manually can be dangerous if you are not very cautious and will take a bit of work to be able to really test your power supply.
Caution: Do not open and / or touching the inside of the power supply box will be very dangerous.
Power Supply Testing with a Power Supply Tester

Advantages
The result of test power supply using a power supply tester can be conducted with ease and gives results that are more rigorous and conclusive, With ways that can disappear into factor of human error and negligence. So testing using a power supply tester become more secure and remove the fear and avoid electrical shock AC.
